REI
20 stores, seven states (2 MW)
Blue Oak Energy is the turnkey solar installer for REI's ambitious national multi-site solar initiative. We completed the engineering, procurement, and construction for 20 stores across seven states, which were selected based on multiple feasibility studies we performed for REI. Depending on any given location, a solar-equipped store will generate between 10 and 100 percent of its own electricity. The total capacity for the 20 stores is approximately 2 MW. The first round of this work started in 2008 with a total of seven stores and 675kW installed in California. The success from this initial program led to further feasibility studies and analysis with REI. In 2010 we were selected to install solar electric systems on the rooftops of additional sites which are located across the United States.
Google, Mountain View, CA
Solar electric (1.9 MW) on rooftops & carport structures.
Blue Oak Energy designed the 1.9 MW solar energy project for Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California. This extensive and architecturally complex campus required a forward-thinking design solution, including both rooftop and carport PV arrays. Blue Oak acted as the project architect and overall engineering designer and worked closely with Google and the City of Mountain View to address all site planning and design issues.
Limoneira Company, Santa Maria, CA
Two (1 MW) ground mounted solar energy systems
BOE completed the electrical engineering for two solar energy projects for Limoneira Company, totaling 2 MW – 1 MW fixed-tilt ground-mounted and 1 MW tracking. Extra care was taken to minimize the environmental impact of the installation on the company’s lemon groves. A unique feature of this project is the ballasted solar array mounting system which uses precast concrete footings, eliminating any onsite soil excavation while accelerating the construction schedule.

The solar array's single-axis tracking system provides a 12% increase in production over traditional fixed-rack systems, covering 23% of the Mariani plant’s entire electrical needs.

Wal-mart Palm Springs, CA

This project is part of the Wal-Mart multi-site initiative. This 500 kW system is typical for the system sizes on all their retail stores. Blue Oak Energy has provided more than 10 MW of design, engineering and construction management services for Wal-Mart’s retail stores.
House Foods America Corporation, Garden Grove, CA

House Foods, one of the largest fresh tofu and frozen food producers in the United States, contracted Blue Oak Energy to design and install a solar array on their state-of-the-art processing facility in Garden Grove, California.
