Utility-Scale Solar Projects
When you need end-to-end management for your utility scale project from concept to construction to production, rely on the experienced engineering excellence and the difference we make working cohesively with your team. Blue Oak Energy represents the quality engineering and construction trade skills required to deliver the utility-scale solar era.
As Renewable Portfolio Standards expand, requiring more electricity production from renewable resources, the benefits of photovoltaic systems become increasingly apparent. PV systems are more easily sited due to the clean, quiet operation and minimal site impact. With no air pollution on-site, minimal water usage (for module cleaning only), and a low visual profile, large scale PV systems are typically faster to permit than other generation sources. PV facilities are also modular - allowing for flexibility in system sizing, incremental system startup and a phased construction schedule.
The utilities listed below already know that Blue Oak Energy is your reliable partner from the first phone call through the life of your photovoltaic solar energy system.
Highlighted utility scale project:
Project: Long Island Solar Farm
Location: Brookhaven National Lab, Upton, NY
System Size: 37 MW
Utility Company: Long Island Power Authority (LIPA)
Located at Brookhaven National Lab, the 37MW and 190 acre Long Island Solar Farm feeds power directly into the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) utility grid. This system directly powers local businesses, neighborhoods and cities; in addition to helping LIPA meet its commitment for renewable energy production. Blue Oak Energy was selected by developer, BP Solar, to provide the multidisciplinary engineering skills to move this project from preliminary design to full operation in 12 months. The community's contribution to the project helped make this solar farm an integrated element with the surrounding environment by providing native plant vegetation in and around the solar array and mammal crossings into and out of the array. The team efforts between BP Solar, Brookhaven National Laboratory, NYISO, LIPA and the Blue Oak Energy team have made this project one of the most unique and truly beautiful solar farms in the United States. This project designed 2009-2010 and was constructed in 2011. Full system operation began in November 2011.
Project: SCE/ProLogis distributed PV initiative
Location: Southern California
System Size: 90 MW Aggregate
Utility Company: Southern California Edison (SCE)
From 2010-2012, 90MW was successfully deployed on 25 commercial rooftops in southern California. Part of the initiative includes the largest single solar PV rooftop in 2011 in the US, with DC nameplate rating of 8.55MW on a 1.3M square ft. building.
Project: SOLON Five-Points
Location: Five-Points, CA
System Size: 18 MW
Utility Company: Pacific Gas & Electric
The 15-MW project is part of PG&E’s 250-MW Utility Owned Generation (UOG) PV Program. Blue Oak Energy engineers employed the SOLON standard block sizing and innovative wire management to maintain a low cost, high efficiency installation.
Project: Stanton Solar Farm
Location: Orange County Florida
System Size: 5.9 MW
Utility Company: Orlando Utility Commission (OUC)
This is the first solar farm in this county, which is located at the Orlando Utility Commission's Curtis H. Stanton Energy Center. The solar farm contains over 25,000 solar modules, mounted on single-axis trackers prominently visible from Innovation Way.
Project: West Tennessee Solar Farm
Location: Stanton, TN
System Size: 5.1 MW
Utility Company: Tennessee Valley Authority
The 25-acre farm is the largest solar generation facility in the state of Tennessee and still one of the largest in the country. This material is based upon work supported by the Department of Energy under Award Number DE-EE0000160. Funding Source: CDFA 81.041.
Project: Haverhill Solar Project
Location: Haverhill, MA
System Size: 1 MW
Utility Company: National Grid
Located on a former manufactured gas storage facility, this system now offsets the emissions produced in generating electricity for 200 homes. A unique design component was utilizing the eastward slope of the available land to maximize the PV system size.
Project: Puget Sound Energy
Location: Bellevue, WA
System Size: N/A
Utility Company: Puget Sound Energy (PSE)
Blue Oak Energy was hired by the Northwest's largest power provider to perform a Solar Resource Assessment for developing a large solar array. The scope entails design-build of the weather station and active longitudinal assessment.
We've also partnered with public sector and corporations to design, engineer, and build large-scale photovoltaic solar systems.
